8-channel HD video & sound installation, 10 minutes 14 seconds.
in L’antichambre, I document myself as a house-cleaner. Still frames of empty rooms are punctuated by a figure moving through them as I go about doing labour of cleaning. As much about absence as presence about tedium as contemplation, this multi-channel installation brings into focus the often invisible labour performed by marginalized women in domestic spaces.
The sound of cleaning can be heard around the gallery space as it weaves from one projection to another, following the body as I go about one room into the next. House cleaning supplies are dispersed around the gallery floor along with the faint scent of cleaning products.
As part of presenting this work for the first time, a live-performance with spoken word took place containing written notes in the form of stream of consciousness.
